CALIFORNIA, Md. -- Deputies are looking for three men after a woman and her two children were abducted from their Lusby home in order to rob the bank the woman manages, according to the St. Mary's County Sheriff's Office.
The men approached the woman at about 7 a.m. Tuesday at her home and forced her, her 5-year-old daughter and her 1-year-old son into her Chevy Tahoe. The men then drove them to the PNC Bank on Three Notch Road in California.
The men forced the woman to remove an undisclosed amount of cash from the bank. They then released the woman and her children at Green Holly Elementary School on Millstone Landing Road in Lexington Park.
"They're unharmed but naturally shaken up after the violent ordeal that they went through, certainly," Sheriff Timothy Cameron said.
The woman called 911 from the school.
The woman's Tahoe later was found outside a nearby CVS on Rue Purchase Road, where at least one person was seen fleeing on foot.
Deputies also are looking for a black 2003 or 2004 Nissan Sentra with tinted windows in connection with the robbery, the sheriff said. Checkpoints and road blocks were set up in the county. Leads were developed but no suspects have been found.
Schools in the county were secured as a precaution.
A third person drove the Sentra and may be involved. Deputies are looking for black men believed to be in their 20s and all wearing camouflage shirts, green pants and masks, Cameron said. There is no description of the third person.
A long gun was used in the abduction and robbery, so authorities consider the three men armed and dangerous.
